The most ideal length of the nose in harmony with the whole face, Long nose rhinoplasty

A long nose typically means that the tip of the nose extends a bit further down than usual, or projects outward, making the nose look like an arrow.

This feature can make the face look aged or unfavorable. In particular, a long nose can droop when pronouncing specific sounds (Oo, Ou, etc.) or when making certain facial expressions elongating the midface. Long nose correction surgery makes the nose look shorter by raising the tip, and ideal in any facial expression.

The ideal nose characteristics

Slightly curved and upward tip, not showing the nostrils too much, giving a feminine and sophisticated expression.

The ideal male nose and the ideal female nose are quite different. CDU is always careful to evaluate the ideal length and angle, considering gender and overall facial shape. An ideal female nasal tip has a slight upward rotation overall.

Generally, when it comes to the ideal nose, the length is â…“ of the face and the degree of the columella-labial angle is 95-105. When the angle is less than 110 degrees, the nose appears masculine and long.

Surgery Methods

1. Resection of the alar cartilage

When the tip droops due to a considerably bigger size of the alar cartilage, the head of the alar cartilage is removed and the alar cartilage can be rearranged. The tip becomes naturally shorter and higher.

2. Reinforcement of the alar cartilage

When the alar cartilage itself droops down, by adding a supporting strut on the columella (strut graft) or using an alar cartilage sculpting technique, the tip can be raised and the nose becomes naturally shorter.

3. Resection or paralyzation of the muscle bringing down the tip

When the tip droops and the nose becomes longer in specific facial expressions or when pronouncing certain sounds, the muscle bringing down the tip (depressor septi nasi muscle) can be resected or paralyzed.

4. Resection of septal cartilage

If the tip faces down or is too projected, by removing part of the septal cartilage, the tip can be moved a little closer to the face, making the length more ideal.

5. Hanging columella correction

If the tip faces down or is too projected, by removing part of the septal cartilage, the tip can be moved a little closer to the face, making the length more ideal.
