Upper Blepharoplasty
When people notice sagging skin on the upper eyelid, they often presume that the cause is only skin sagging on the eyes. However, upper eyelid sagging can sometimes also be caused by sagging of the forehead or eyebrow. Therefore, it is important to accurately determine the cause of sagging upper eyelids and correct the issue.
For example, when the eyes seem aged due to a droopy forehead and eyebrows, if upper blepharoplasty is performed, the distance between the eyes and the eyebrows is shortened, giving a patient a frustrated or stern expression.
However, when this gets worse, the angle of the eyelashes turns downward, which can poke the eyeball, causing excess tears. Also, sagging skin on the upper eyelid can badly obstruct the field of view. In such cases, by removing excess skin and pulling up the eyelids, clear sight and elasticity on the upper eyelid can be restored.
Recommended when
- The upper eyelid is not puffy.
- There is enough distance between the eyebrows and the eyes.
- Clear vision is difficult.
- There is discharge on areas of the eye covered by sagging skin.
- Loss of skin elasticity has caused wrinkles around the eyes.
- The eyes look sleepy due to weak eye-opening strength.
CDU's Upper Blepharoplasty
As we age, the skin, muscle and fat layer become thinner, so we need to be careful when deciding how much skin should be removed. After figuring out the condition of the skin around the eyes, the appropriate amount of skin, muscle, and fat is removed.
Depending on an individual’s physical characteristics, skin removal alone can be performed, without making double folds.
By removing sagging skin as well as unnecessary fat from the incision site, the eyes become brighter and the overall appearance becomes youthful.
By lifting the eye area and removing excess skin, the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes can be improved.
Surgery Process
After considering the patient’s needs, the design is made.
Excess skin, fat, and muscle are removed.
The wound is closed.
Bright and natural eyes are achieved.
Upper Blepharoplasty Methods
Upper blepharoplasty without creating a double eyelid
- For eyes with double folds.
- The recovery process for this method is shorter and faster, and the expression and appearance are not changed much.
Upper blepharoplasty with creation of double folds
- This method is used when we can’t achieve a satisfactory result with skin removal alone, because there are no double folds or the height of the double folds is too low.
- For eyes with blepharoptosis
- This method is very effective for saggy eyelids, and prevents the eyelid skin from sagging in the future.
- For those who don’t want double folds, the height can be adjusted so that the folds are not seen when the patient opens their eyes.
- After skin removal, natural-looking double folds can be achieved using a non-incisional method.
Sub-brow Lift
A sub-brow lift is a surgery to remove sagging skin through an incision along the eyebrows.
It is possible to produce a natural-looking eye without much change, because this surgery removes excess skin without making double folds. By doing so, vision is secured and the appearance becomes much younger.
Recommended when
- There is enough distance between the eyes and the eyebrows.
- The upper lids are puffy.
- Eyes have double folds and the patient has eyebrow tattoos.
- There is excess skin at the outer corners of the eyes.
- Short and fast recovery.
Advantages of Sub-Brow Lift
An effective result in cases where the skin is sagging at the outer corner.
In most cases, the scar is almost invisible. Even if it is noticeable, the scar can be hidden by eyebrow hairs, and can be covered by an eyebrow tattoo.
It is more effective when subbrow lift and upper blepharoplasty are performed simultaneously.
Crow’s feet can be improved.
Fast recovery by removing skin around the eyebrows.
Surgery Process
After considering the patient’s needs, the design is made.
Excess skin, fat, and muscles are removed by making an incision in the skin along the eyebrows.
The incision is closed after lifting the skin and the muscle. It is fixed at the periosteum.
Bright and natural eyes are achieved.
CDU's Sub-brow Lift
By lifting sagging skin without making double folds, the eyes still look natural after surgery.
Unnecessary skin is removed. Then, the skin and muscles are lifted, giving the patients a youthful look.
The incision is made delicately along the eyebrows, so the scar is almost invisible.
Vision becomes clearer and more comfortable, and eyelashes which poke the eyes due to sagging skin will improve.
Sub-brow Lift Q&A
After a subbrow lift, the position of the eyebrows and skin becomes lower. By calculating this effect, the surgeon may over-correct the eyes during surgery. As the eyebrows lower, the appearance will become more natural.
Difficulty closing the eyes will improve as the eyebrow position settles. The recovery process takes about six months after surgery and the condition will gradually improve.
Wrinkles may appear in the areas where the surgeon fixes the muscles and skin. This is only a temporary symptom. The wrinkles will disappear over the course of six months.
What if I am not a candidate for either surgery?
When it comes to saggy eyebrows, upper blepharoplasty or a subbrow lift may not be appropriate. In this case, an endoscope forehead lift is recommended to improve skin sagging on the eyes.
